This week we chatted to Nutritionist and Dose & Co Founder Libby Boxall on what foods are on her glowing skin grocery list and how to get a double-dose of collagen.
What inspired you to create Dose & Co? How does it benefit skin health
After I had my daughter 3 years ago, I suffered from extreme postpartum hair loss. I tried almost everything for it, and nothing seemed to work. I began supplementing with collagen powder and that was the only supplement that helped. However, a lot of the collagen powders on the market were full of fillers, artificial flavours and colours or were very expensive. This is where I had the idea to start my own collagen company that not only had premium, high-quality products and ingredients, but an affordable range so everyone could reap the benefits of this amazing supplement.
What are some foods on your glowing skin grocery list? Can you talk a little more about nutrients needed throughout the day to really benefit overall skin health?
My favourite foods to help with skin health that I have almost every day are berries, avocado, broccoli, capsicum, apple and dark chocolate. These foods are rich in antioxidants and fibre. I also ensure I drink around 2 litres of water per day to help keep my skin hydrated and flush out toxins. I take Dose & Co dairy free collagen creamer every morning which has also helped clear my skin and keeps it hydrated and soft.
Skin health plays a major role with what is going on inside of our body and one of the best ways to help improve skin health and appearance is eating fruit and vegetables rich in vitamin C, vitamin E, and fibre. Also cutting down or cutting out processed foods and alcohol will help with skin appearance.
What are your top tips for living a healthy lifestyle that’s super easy to follow on busy/stressful days?
Exercise is a huge priority for me to help with energy levels, improved sleep, de-stressing and having a positive mindset. I aim to exercise for 30 minutes per day, even if it is a light walk.
I also find the better I eat, the better I feel. I try to eat as many fruit and vegetables as I can, cut down on processed foods, limit alcohol and drink enough water.
If I prioritize my exercise and diet, I feel great, have balanced energy levels during the day, sleep better and I feel happy which is most important. When I don’t make time to exercise or eat healthy, I don’t feel great mentally and I feel unmotivated.
Why do you think collagen has become so ‘talked about’? We use Marine Collagen in our skincare. What are the benefits of a ‘double dose’ of collagen, inside and out?
I think collagen has become so popular because people get results fast. I’ve always believed in nourishing your body from the inside out, and collagen powder is the perfect way to do that. It not only helps skin but hair, nails, joints and bones.
I think double dosing on collagen inside and out is great – collagen has transformed my skin, hair and nails so I’m all for using collagen powder and skincare that includes collagen.
Run us through your top tips for a good basic beauty routine on your busiest days.
My skincare routine is very low maintenance! Since March I have been working from home due to lockdown, so I have barely worn any makeup and I think my skin has been the best it has ever been. Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective. I believe in good quality products that work for your skin type, as well as consistency.
My top tips for a good basic beauty routine would be ensuring you cleanse morning and night; this makes a huge difference to the appearance of my skin. Using a good quality moisturiser to ensure your skin is well hydrated. I live in Minnesota where it is either freezing cold or hot, my skin is always on the dry side, so I am always ensuring I moisturise my face twice daily and applying sunscreen every morning (even in winter). Since I’m getting older, I’ve started to use an eye cream every night which has definitely helped my skin appearance.
